What Is Northwest Homecrafters?

Beginning in 1989, Wayne and a carpenter/friend decided to start their own construction services business.  This began by providing a few Seattle area realtors with repair services for their clients.  This would range from replacing rotted steps, windows and siding, to jacking and leveling two story homes, or replace and repair rotted foundation posts and framing.  Competence and Excellent service in these areas led to requests to remodel bathrooms and kitchens, to constructing decks, complete second floors, dormers, additions, and whole home remodels.

In the spring of 1998, Wayne’s partner left the business and the area.  During the fall of 1999, a local remodeling contractor introduced Wayne to the Remodelors Council of the Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish Counties.  That introduction began the ongoing journey to creating an increasingly professional remodeling company.

Presented with the opportunity of a business education, Wayne traveled the country attending trade shows, ‘boot camps’, software training and other educational opportunities.  He has been awarded four professional certifications earned through the National Association of Homebuilders.  He has also earned additional designations for home energy auditing and retrofitting.  He is an active member in one of 3 NAHB Remodel 20 Clubs.  These are clubs with up to 20 remodelers each, located in various parts of the United States.  They meet twice a year to discuss financial practices, exchange ideas, and assist each other in raising their business standards within the remodeling profession.

In 1993-94, Wayne formed a group of 5 non-remodeling professionals called an Advisory Group, which met once a month for about a year to discuss the efficacy of forms, literature, information, and procedures Wayne was developing.  The end result was a foundation for the Project Accountability and Management System.  PAMS provides an organized, clearly understood path through the seemingly chaotic process of home remodeling.  Another result was informational brochures about remodeling and construction, and is available on this website.

Our current mission is two-fold.  The first is to transform Northwest Homecrafters into a Design-Build remodel company.  This came about from witnessing a recurring disconnect between design and construction costs.  When design matches cost, dreams do happen.

The second is to raise the bar several notches when it comes to building performance.  Incorporating up to date building science into each project and using diagnostic home performance tools to confirm these outcomes is a lot of fun and should be universal practice.

In terms of responsibility and reliability, we’re second to none.  Being part of a larger community of remodel contractors is an aspect of professionalism taken seriously.  Wayne is an active member of the Remodelors Council which he chaired in 2009.  He also sits on the boards of Passive House Northwest and the Seattle chapter of the Northwest EcoBuilding Guild.

Northwest Homecrafters continually strives to improve their business professionalism and it shows with our service to customers.  With Northwest Homecrafters you always know where you are, where you are going, and how long it will take to get there.
