Building A Professional Business One Remodeling Project at a TimeBeginning in 1989, Wayne and a carpenter/friend decided to run their own construction services business. They began by providing area realtors with repair services to Seattle homes. This service could range from replacing rotted steps, windows and siding, to jacking and leveling two story homes, or replace and repair rotted foundation posting and framing. Excellent service and competence in these areas led to requests to remodel bathrooms and kitchens, to constructing decks, complete second floors, dormers, additions, and whole home remodels. In the spring of 1998, Wayne’s partner left the business and the area. In the fall of 1999, a fellow remodel contractor introduced Wayne to the Remodelors Council of the Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish Counties. That introduction began the journey to becoming a professional remodeling company. Putting an emphasis on educationPutting immediate emphases on education Wayne began traveling the country to attend trade shows, ‘boot camps’, software training and other educational opportunities. He has since been awarded the Certified Graduate Remodeler (CGR), Graduate Master Builder (GMB) and Certified Aging-In-Place (CAPS) certifications, earned through the National Association of Homebuilders. He is also an active member in one of the six NAHB Remodel 20 Clubs. These are clubs with up to 20 remodelers who are located in various parts of the United States. They meet twice each year to discuss business practices, exchange ideas, and assist each other in raising their standards within the remodeling industry. In 2002-03, Wayne formed a group of 5 professionals as an advisory group, which met once a month to discuss the efficacy of forms, literature, information, and procedures he was developing. The end result of this group formed the foundation of the Project Accountability and Management System. With PAMS, we provide an organized, clearly understood path through the seemingly chaotic process of home remodeling. Another result was informational brochures. These brochures cover topics about remodeling and construction, and are available on this website. Another part of our mission has been to transform Northwest Homecrafters into a Design-Build remodel company. This came about from witnessing a recurring disconnect between design and the cost of construction. In terms of responsibility and reliability, we’re second to none. Being part of a larger community of remodel contractors is an aspect of professionalism we take seriously. Wayne is an active member of the Remodelors Council of the Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish Counties. During 2009, he will be chair of the Remodelors Council. He also sits on a few subcommittees of the council as well. Each year he teaches a class at a neighborhood center in Seattle on how to hire and work with contractors.
